§ 02 Hanging Guide PRINTABLE INSTRUCTIONS:

Non-woven wallpaper means the paste goes on the wall, not the paper.

The material stays dry and stable while you work - no soaking, no stretching, no warping. It's repositionable before the paste sets, so if the first hang isn't perfect, lift it and try again. It is, genuinely, the most forgiving format available.

For paste, we recommend Roman 838 adhesive. Its lower moisture content makes it the preferred choice for installers and a safer option for uncoated matte surfaces.

Do I need a professional?

Not necessarily. Non-woven is the DIY-friendly format for a reason - the process is logical, the material is forgiving, and most rooms are more straightforward than you think. Where a professional earns their fee: complex rooms with alcoves, angles, or pattern-matching across multiple breaks. If that's you, WE CAN CONNECT YOU →

Bathrooms and kitchens?

Non-woven handles moderate humidity without complaint. The limits: no direct water contact, no steam, not inside a shower enclosure, not directly above a hob. Everywhere else in those rooms - go for it.

On dye lots

Always order all rolls for a project in a single transaction. We batch print per order to ensure color consistency - reorders from a different batch may vary. Our calculator includes a 10% waste buffer for pattern matching, but if you're between quantities, order the extra roll. Different designs will require varying amounts depending on match type and repeat size. When in doubt, more is more.

Measuring, argh

Unusual spaces, awkward angles, measurements that aren't adding up - we've seen it all. If you're not sure, just ask. GET IN TOUCH →

01
Inspect your rolls
Before you start, inspect every roll. Check for shade variations, damage, or faults. Far easier to resolve a manufacturing issue before the paper is on the wall. After hanging 2–3 lengths, inspect again.
02
Prepare the wall
Remove old wallpaper, loose paint, and dirt. Fill cracks and sand smooth. Prime the wall - this prevents paste absorption, ensures even adhesion, and makes future removal easier. For bare plaster, size with diluted paste first.
03
Find your starting point
Use a spirit level or plumb-bob to draw a true vertical line - walls are rarely perfectly straight. Start at the most visible point in the room, or centre the dominant motif on a feature wall.
04
Paste the wall
Apply Roman 838 directly to the wall - not the paper. Use a mohair roller for smooth, even coverage one strip width at a time. Full coverage to the edges. Do not over-apply - excess paste at seams can damage the uncoated matte surface.
05
Hang dry from the roll
No soaking required. Place the top against the ceiling aligned to your plumb line and smooth outward from centre with a soft brush or smoother. AWB uses a butt-join seam - align edges without overlap. Do not use abrasive tools on the matte surface.
06
Trim and finish
Use a sharp craft knife and straight edge to trim at ceiling, skirting, and architraves. Change blades frequently - a blunt blade tears rather than cuts. Wipe paste from woodwork immediately with a damp sponge. Keep the face of the paper clean throughout.
07
Drying & aftercare
Allow 24–48 hours at room temperature. Do not use heat - it causes shrinkage and bubbling. Once fully dry, lightly wipe with a soft damp cloth. Do not scrub or use abrasive cleaners on the matte surface.
